I have been captivated by this story…
The family is hoping for people to contact their congressman and senators about this issue. Here is a link to the web page blog where you can read more. You can also get information on what to say to your Representatives. I have written mine twice already.

Think about it…pray about it…and let’s bring Sean home.

Oh my goodness, I think Brazil has gone way too far! I have thought that they were a little more civilized in 2008, as far as the law and who has money……no change, still the same old thing, money rules. What an ugly thing.
Brazil has some really strange citizenship laws when it comes to international marriage. I chose not to give my child a Brazilian citizenship and yet, I was told by the Brazilian consulate, that she is automatically a Brazilian citizen since she has one parent who holds a Brazilian citizenship.
My heart goes out to this father. May Hashem break the money stronghold in this situation.
I think that your comment is a result of your lack of information. Kidnapping or children by the other parent is not common and not approved in our culture. But before you lash out against Brazil, maybe you should take a look at your own back yard. I am brazilian and I see things happening in the US with children of divorced parents, that I would be embarrassed about, if I were American, and I wouldn’t dare to talk about another judiciary system until I solved problem in my own back yard. Have you ever heard of the friends of the court??? That is the biggest joke I’ve ever seen. A bunch of biassed women working in favor of the mother (check their web site, 9 out of 10 links favor the mother); fathers don’t stand a chance. Women use this called friends of the court as a weapon for legal harrassment. Plus, women using their children to hurt ex husbands is a common in the western world; it doesn’t matter if it is in North, Central, South America, Europe… I am sure this is not the first custody battle you hear of, is it? If you want to fight decisions made by the “Frinds” of the court, you have to be rich, hire a lawyer, and at some point you just can’t afford to keep fighting… Like I said, fix your own back yard before criticking somebody else’s yard!
I think that it is interesting that you turn to criticizing the US and never actually comment on what is going on here. I am FULL aware of the troubles in our culture. But this is indeed an issue that IS in my back yard. The boy and his father are both Americans. This is legally not even a Brazillian issue. The son should by ALL laws be returned to his father, Brazilian and American.
If my comments here are indeed a result of the lack of information I ask you to please inform me of the ways Brazil is working to ensure the return of this child to his father.
Also, please do not assume that I do not work to fight injustice in all places where I see it. No, this is not the first custody case I have ever heard of and this is also indeed not the first custody case I have ever stood up for. The thing you fail to see is that standing against the father here makes you no different than the “friends of the court”. Irony is a strange thing. Indeed I hope in this case the father has a chance. And that is my continued prayer.
